Dark Chocolate Almond Energy Bites


Dan and I are going on day 17 of the Advocare 24 Day Challenge and we are feeling absolutely fantastic.  I love doing these challenges because they are not only a great way to get me back on track weight wise, but they also force me to think up new and creative ways to feed my body.

It's an unfortunate fact that Dan and I both have a sweet tooth.  For me, my achilles heel is hands down dark chocolate.  Which is actually not bad for you--in moderation.  But oh how I hate that "moderation" part.  Seriously, there are times when I could literally eat nothing but dark chocolate all day--breakfast, lunch and dinner, folks.

I really dislike when others call what we are doing a diet, because I do not see it that way at all.  Advocare is not about counting every single calorie and sticking to it, but rather focusing on eating clean foods and supplementing for the areas you are nutritionally lacking in.

That being said, I have been having some major cravings for something sweet lately and fighting the urge to run to the Loaf 'n Jug down the street for a Snickers bar.  In the past I have made some Pinterest recipes for Peanut Butter Energy Bites that were delicious.  After raiding my pantry I noticed my peanut butter was almost out.  Fortunately, I just bought a brand new jar of almond butter and I have never been scared to experiment.

To satisfy my chocolate craving without totally destroying my day I whipped up these amazing Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Energy Bites.  Just like with any chocolate, I think it is much better frozen, so these babies went straight to the freezer to get their chill on.

One ball was definitely enough to satisfy that sweet tooth, but I didn't feel too guilty going back for a second.  Hey--they are small!

Dark Chocolate Almond Energy Bites


  • 1/2 c almond butter
  • 1/3 c protein powder (I used vanilla)
  • 1/2 c rolled oats
  • 1 tbs flax seed
  • 1 tbs honey
  • 1 tbs dark cocoa
  • splash of vanilla extract
  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Roll by hand into balls.
  3. Enjoy!
