Things I'm Loving FriYay #8
Hello friends and happy Friday once again. Also, happy last Friday in September!
My favorite month is just a couple of days away and I cannot wait. Though I love October for the leaves, weather, and the fact that it is the kick-off to the best time of the year, it did not become my favorite month until two years ago when my little E graced us with his presence. I became a full-fledged mommy in October, on a gorgeous and sunny 75˚ day. Now, each time I think of the month, I am reminded of how much my life changed and how infinitely better it became.
Speaking of my little man, he is the perfect lead-in for this week's Things I'm Loving FriYay because yesterday he did something that made my day...no week....no YEAR! After months and month of me trying to get him to say it, he finally broke out that three-word phrase that makes most men cringe in fright. "I Love You!" It was so heart-warming I had to capture it on video. Of course, I wanted to share it with y'all.
Now that I have hit you hard right in the ole' heartstrings, let's get on with the rest of this weeks loves...though really, that video is certainly enough!
- God-Centered Mom Podcast with Heather MacFadyen
Like most moms, when nighttime rolls around I am all too ready to plop myself into bed. Honestly, sometimes I have to give myself a pep-talk just to find the energy to brush my teeth and take off my makeup. But, again--like most moms--the second my head hits the pillow what am I doing? Not sleeping that's what!
Nope, I am going through the day's events, thinking about tomorrow, worrying about my child, worrying about my relationship, worrying about finances, worrying, worrying...worrying. This in and of itself is usually enough to get me to finally pass out from exhaustion. But those nights are never restful. So I have taken, instead, to listening to podcasts to lull me to sleep.
When I stumbled upon GCM I immediately fell in love. In fact, it was so good I now cannot use it for sleep because I stay up wanting to hear the end. So now I listen in the daytime while I am out and about, cleaning the house, or working while my son naps. This podcast has helped restore my tired mama soul by bringing women like me into my life--even if just through the airwaves--and reminding me that I am not alone in this crazy madness called motherhood.
Each episode centers on something different, so I am confident that you will find something you need to hear. I have most enjoyed her most recent one on not having to be a supermom.
You can find the podcasts on iTunes and information on her website.
- Stash Premium Chai Spice Black Tea
When it comes to tea I am a bit of a, um---mega hoarder. I actually have half of an entire pantry shelf taken up by just tea. I have everything from black tea to chamomile and everything in between. The thing is, I am only an occasional tea drinker. Coffee is really my "drug" of choice. But I can't help it when those evil tea companies package their product in such lovely casings and beautiful paper wrapping. Each time I walk down the coffee aisle I am redirected by the beauty that resides in the tea section.
So, needless to say, this particular tea has been in my place for a while. I mean, c'mon, look how pretty it is! But I finally got around to trying it this week and boy was I in for a delightful surprise.
I am a huge chai fan, particularly if it is frothy with soy milk and slightly sweetened. I had this simply with a little honey and it was heavenly. Like chai? Try it for yourself!
Now that my son is two I have decided enough is enough! I will no longer be holding onto any of his clothes, no matter how painful it is to say goodbye. They each hold such sweet memories, it is so hard to let go! But we are simply running out of room and I figured by the time the next baby arrives, and is a boy, we will have plenty of early baby clothes to get us through to the next stage.
So here I have been boxing up clothes, some not even worn before he grew out of them, and getting ready to take them to Goodwill. While I am all for clothing donation, as a stay-at-home mom I am always looking for ways to bring in a few extra bucks each month. Enter Mercari.
This site/app is absolutely fantastic. I have had it for a little over a week and already make close to $70 simply selling old baby and maternity items. You simply take a few pictures of what you want to sell, list your price/shipping, and Mercari does the rest. As soon as an item sells you are notified and have three days to ship it off. They even make you the shipping label.
You can also use the money you earn to put back into buying items for yourself. So far I have gotten my son's entire Halloween costume pieced together through this place. Pretty amazing, right?
